Wiro Binding

Wiro binding is another binding method we use at Gemini Digital Colour. This method is beneficial because of the ability to use any stock, there are no limitations on finishes and its cost effective. The use of a Wiro Bound book allows you to fold the pages back on itself without any limitations or damaging the spine of the book. Wiro Binding is commonly used for:

Calendars

Notebooks

Recipe Books

Manuals

Perfect/PUR Binding
BOOKS-MOCKUP.jpg

PUR & Perfect binding is arguably the most popular method for binding soft cover books, magazines and brochures. With these binding methods, the pages and cover are glued together at the spine with a strong, yet flexible, thermal glue. The other three sides of the book are then trimmed as needed to give them clean “perfect” edges. This wrap around cover with spine gives a more aesthetic and professional finish as opposed to saddle stitching.

Whats the difference?

The only difference between PUR and Perfect Bound books is the glue used to bind them. Perfect binding uses Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) adhesive whereas PUR binding uses an adhesive called Polyurethane Reactive hence the name PUR.

PUR binding uses a far superior type of adhesive which gives it many advantages. It is the strongest method of binding and also the most flexible which makes it ideal for heavy use applications. In fact PUR binding is 2.5 times stronger than Perfect Binding. This method of binding is also able to withstand extreme temperatures and does not crack in cold conditions or re-melt in hot conditions.

Saddle Stitching

Saddle stitching tends to be used with smaller booklets or brochures, using wires to bind the book together. This method is cost effective compared to other binding methods and has the fastest turn around. Saddle stitching is also a good choice if you intend to mail your work because it has minimal bulk and weight. Generally saddle stitching is used for:
